The Rookery

Walcott
Norfolk

The Rookery is home to 30 adults with learning disabilities. Some people have very complex needs and we provide a high level of staff care and support. Some of residents have sensory impairments that require specialist communication skills, while those on the autistic spectrum thrive on their routine and the wealth of information available. A number of residents have made their home at the Rookery since it opened in 1978. We pride ourselves for successfully offering a united community where residents feel secure in their home.

The home is set in approximately 28 acres of beautifully kept gardens, paddocks and woodland. It is a very tranquil and relaxing environment. Right next door is the Barrington Farm Day Centre with an art studio, café, gym and small working rare breeds farm.

The main accommodation is a traditional 18th Century Manor House where residents receive individually planned twenty-four hour care. The house has both ground floor and first floor bedrooms. There are 14 single bedrooms, many with en-suite facilities, and two twin rooms for those residents who prefer to share.

There is also a range of tastefully converted stable buildings, cottages and purpose built bungalows situated close to the main house in the grounds. They offer 14 ensuite ground floor single rooms with open plan lounge and kitchens. These homes are designed for up to 3 people to live in a "family" environment with full support and care from qualified staff. These homes enable individuals, small groups and couples the opportunity of greater independence.

All accommodation meets the National Care Standard Regulations 2008 and rooms are furnished and decorated to a high standard. Everyone has the privacy of their own room and the freedom of communal space both indoors and out in the safety of the grounds. Most of the communal areas, ground floor bedrooms in the main house and all the cottages are accessible for wheelchair users. A new lift is being installed to enable less able residents to access the first floor. Please see the Service User Guide for more details of room sizes.

The Registered Manager is Delyth Spring who holds a Registered Manager Award, NVQ Level 4 Health and Social Care and Advanced Management In Care. Delyth is also an Internal Verifier and Assessor.
